The fantastic, immortal jellyfish.
Today, my challenge is in working on this sweet, little jellyfish pen or brooch.
So far, I have embroidered and beaded it. And, as before, I have come upon this challenge where I cannot decide what to do with the border of the pen or brooch.
Btw, Regarding the materials, I like to use felt for the base fabric and a stiff stuff under the felt fabric.
I have used a cotton DMC thread and I’ve used some Japanese seed beads for decorative purposes as well as some metallic thread from DMC. Also, as an accent to my design I have I have attempted to use some sequins around the border or edges of my design.
Honestly, I was not pleased with the results of that experiment. It was a bit too much for me my personal aesthetic although it may be something that someone else may enjoy. (this garish result is not shown in the photo, I had already removed most of the sequins that were attempted)
You see, this is where I have a very difficult challenge at times because I have I am working on creating something that is marketable yet it is difficult for me I have not yet developed a comfort in my artistic origins. Or I guess this would’ve considered some sort of artistic boundaries. Anyway, I haven’t yet found my sweet spot. Nor do I have a good understanding of the concept (clearly).
I need to constantly remind myself that what is important is that I am expressing my own creative ideas and should not feeling pressure of what is marketable.
I believe the best ideas come from our own heart and our own artistic inspirations whatever you want to call.
I do struggle with this concept a bit because I also feel pressure to get something started, something that will be popular.
So, I’m sharing this with you today and I’m hoping to receive some feedback if possible. If you have any ideas on what you would like to see around the edges or borders of this brooch.
Any and all ideas for finishing, any advice would be so helpful. I would be so thankful for as someone who is trying to develop something here and I should also note something about the origin of this design. This jellyfish is actually not something I’m planning on selling. I did not design this jellyfish this drawing was created by Sublime Stitching.
This little guy is more of a practice piece for me. I’m just to sort of trying to get a feel for what my style is, my personal aesthetic. Anyway, I just wanted to make that clear that this is not something that I’m marketing or selling I’m just working out the kinks of my ideas.
I’m big fan of Sublime Stitching by the way, I’ve used some of her products from the beginning of my stitching ‘career’ which began about three years ago. She sells some really beautiful, and simple designs that are great ‘first teachers’ to those who are just starting out with embroidery. She also offers a transfer pen (in many colors) that is just awesome for tracing and transferring designs. I highly recommend it! I use mine all the time. I prefer the blue one by the way. I hope you have enjoyed my post and I hope you have a wonderful week! Goodbye for now.
